Wedding rituals vary based on traditional ceremonies such as Engagement, Mehendi, Swayambar, Kanyadan, and the Main Wedding Ceremony. Here is a simple breakdown:

Engagement

The engagement ritual typically takes around 30–60 minutes, depending on the priest. It begins with the worship of Diyo, Kalash, and Ganesh, followed by the exchange of gifts between the to-be bride and groom.

Mehendi

Mehendi is a purification ritual where a mixture of haldi (turmeric) and curd is applied. The priest-led part takes about 15–20 minutes, followed by celebration.

Swayambar

“Swayambar” means “self-chosen,” symbolizing mutual consent from both families. The bride circles the groom three times, followed by the exchange of garlands and wedding rings. This ritual takes around 30 minutes.

Kanyadan

“Kanyadan” means handing over the bride to the groom and signifies her transition into the groom’s gotra. This ceremony can range from 20 minutes to 2 hours, depending on family traditions.

Main Wedding Rituals

After Kanyadan, the bride changes into attire provided by the groom’s side. Under the Mandap, various rituals are performed, including the important Sindoor Ceremony, where the groom applies sindoor to the bride’s forehead. These rituals typically take about 2 hours.
